My Story

Trees and bikes make good places better! I'm inspired by the work of TREE Fund--supporting research on urban trees and those who work in urban aboriculture, and want to support those efforts by participating in the 2018 Tour des Trees. Please help me raise money for the TREE FUND by donating whatever you can- simply use the 'Donate' button below. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!

What is the Tour des Trees?

The Tour des Trees, an annual weeklong, 500+ mile cycling adventure, is the primary public outreach and engagement event of Tree Research and Education Endowment Fund (TREE Fund). Since 1992 Tour riders have cycled through communities in the U.S., Canada and the U.K., planting trees, educating children and shining a light on the work done by arboriculture professionals and the importance of science-based tree care. The Tour serves to advance TREE Fund’s mission to support scientific discovery and dissemination of new knowledge in arboriculture and urban forestry.

Full-Tour cyclists commit to raising at least $3,500 for TREE Fund; part-time riders have reduced commitments. Event expenses are defrayed by TREE Fund’s generous partners, so 100% of the funds raised by riders can be applied to new grants, payments on multi-year grants awarded in prior years, or added to permanent endowment funds that will sustain research into the future. Thus, the Tour has been an important means by which TREE Fund has been able to disburse over $3.4 million in funding since 2002.

TREE Fund research has produced better ways to plant and care for urban trees, making them more resilient, more resistant to pests, and less prone to failure. The Tour also supports education programs aimed at connecting young people with the environment and career opportunities in green industries.

What’s the best way to raise $350,000 for tree research and education?

Have 100 tree lovers each raise $3500 and then ride their bikes 500+ miles, while sharing their love of trees along the way! We are doing our part, and representing team PNW-ISA, and we need your help.

We've created this team because we want to make a difference in the health of our community forests by participating in the 2018 Tour des Trees to benefit TREE Fund. This July our PNW ISA team will travel to Ohio to ride the 2018 Tour des Trees to benefit TREE Fund. Our PNW-ISA team members include: Phil Graham (Vernon, BC), Wendy Robinson (Bend, OR), Scott Baker (Seattle, WA) and Karen Jenkins (White Salmon, WA). We believe that the tree research and environmental education this ride supports are critical to the well-being of our communities and all of us who inhabit them.

Urban trees are vital to our survival. They clean the air we breathe, control erosion, shelter us from heat and wind, sequester carbon and add beauty to our lives. Trees give us respite from the stressors of our daily lives, but did you know that living in cities is stressful for trees? Pests, diseases, construction, pollution and neglect put the trees in our communities at risk every day. The research and education funded by TREE Fund via the Tour des Trees helps to ensure that tree care professionals are well equipped with best practices and the latest techniques to keep the trees we live with healthy and thriving.

We hope you will support this important cause along with us. Every dollar donated to TREE Fund supports tree research and education, while TREE Fund Partners defray event costs of the week long ride.

Can we count on you to donate $100, $500, or whatever you can afford, to the PNW-ISA team campaign, and we’ll do the pedaling? Karen, Phil, Scott and Wendy really appreciate your support!

The more people that know about TREE Fund and the Tour, the greater the impact, so please also spread the word by sharing our page with your tree loving friends, colleagues and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity – we appreciate it!
